Since 1927, the Drycleaning and Laundry Institute “School of Drycleaning” technology has been the educational system that has taught drycleaners the basics and advanced methods of effective cleaning. Every year we teach hundreds of students from all around the world (and yes, Australians are included) and take pride in the alumni that have gone on to add value to the industry.

FIVE-DAY INTRODUCTION TO DRYCLEANING COURSE

Geared toward individuals new to the industry or with less than 
one year of experience. This course covers:

•    Sorting loads for drycleaning
•    Drycleaning science
•    Fibres and their characteristics
•    Fabric constructions
•    Cleaning silk, satin, and other fabrics
•    Soil and cleaning theory
•    Operating a drycleaning machine
•    Stain removal chemistry and procedures
•    Removing coffee, ink, grease and other stains from clothing
•    Pressing pants, coats skirts
•    Using tensioning equipment to improve finishing quality

TEN-DAY ADVANCED DRYCLEANING COURSE

This ten day Advanced Drycleaning Course is for individuals
who have completed the Introduction Course or have hands-on
production experience and knowledge of basic stain removal
and finishing techniques. The advanced course covers:

•    Identifying cotton, silk, polyester, and other fabrics
•    Fibres and their characteristics
•    Fibre identification through Burn Testing
•    Fabric constructions
•    Using bleaches without damaging the fabric color
•    Pressing blouses, dresses, ties, pleated garments, silks, velvets and corduroy
•    Wetcleaning wool, silk, and more
•    Maintaining and changing filters
•    Distillation procedures
•    Troubleshooting problems with the drycleaning machine
•    Using tensioning equipment to improve finishing quality
•    Current regulation facing the drycleaning industry
•    Customer service techniques for drycleaners
•    Getting clean, white laundry
•    Cleaning and preserving wedding gowns
•    Understanding the differences between solvents including perc, GreenEarth®, hydrocarbon
•    Pressing laundered shirts
•    Designing a drycleaning plant with the most effective work flow

Three days of instruction and practical application on stain
removal procedures. This course covers:

•    Fibres and their characteristics
•    Fibre identification through Burn Testing
•    Fabric construction
•    Stain removal chemistry and procedures
•    Removing coffee, ink, grease and other stains from clothing
•    Identifying cotton, silk, polyester, and other fabrics
•    Using bleaches without damaging the fabric color
•    Using specialty products such as digesters, amyl acetate, and acetone in stain removal
•    Removing spotting rings and water marks
