Dear Valued Member
The Chief Executive Officer Philip Johns has unfortunately decided not to renew his contract with the Drycleaning Institute of Australia (DIA) and will finish on 31st December 2015. He has worked tirelessly in this position for seven years and prior to that in the position of Executive Director NSW for seven years.
Among his many achievements is the establishment of the National Office, the introduction of the DIA website functioning as a resource centre and administrative site and the Sydney Exhibition -Conference which very well received by all attendees. He enjoys a strong and supportive association with members in all States and his knowledge and experience will be missed.
Following Philip’s decision Brian Tonkin was approached and has been appointed by the Board to the position of CEO-DIA commencing on 14th December. This allows an overlap period to assist in the handover of responsibilities and continued assistance for members. We are fortunate to secure Brian’s services having established himself in the past twelve months as a key part of Victoria’s resurgence with significant increases in membership and activities in that State.
Brian has owned and operated a number of very successful Drycleaning businesses from 1986 to 2008. During this time he was a committed industry person being an active part of DIA, both at State and National levels including time as President of Victoria. Following 2008 as a qualified Trainer, he conducted Certificate 3 courses in Customer Service and also assisted a number of small businesses as an accredited business consultant.
While we are sorry to see Philip not renewing his contract, we respect his decision and we wish both he and Brit well for the future, and thank them for significant contributions to the DIA and the Drycleaning industry.
The Board is confident that Brian’s past experience and success will serve the industry well, and his application to this position will provide innovation and continued benefits to DIA membership. I ask that you give your support to Brian Tonkin in the role of CEO-DIA.
