The new national laundry industry association – the Laundry Association Australia had their inaugural meeting (Special General Meeting) on February 23 2016. The meeting was well attended by industry representatives from a range of companies in the sector.
The rationalisation of the industry and the reduction inactive state associations created the need for change. The change will ensure all companies who are critical to and working in the linen and commercial laundry sector are able to influence the future of their industry. The attendees heard how the association had a vision that was inclusive and allowed for all members to have a voice. Several issues were robustly discussed and it was clear that all the members wanted to move in the same direction.
The LAA Board was elected and includes Warwick Brown, Princes Laundry (Chairman); Joe Sullivan, Spotless (Vice Chairman); Anthony Kingsley, Filterfab (Treasurer); Shirley Naylor, National Drycleaner and Launderer; Brian Higgins, Kannegiesser Australia (Secretary); and Kerryn Wollington, LDCT. The motion and vote for the new Constitution and Membership agreement which includes a Code of Conduct was unanimously carried.
We look forward to working with Members to create an association that is respected and highly regarded by the industry. The next general meeting of the LAA will be on 04/05/16 at Level 2, 441 St Kilda Road, Melbourne (AI Group offices). We look forward to seeing members at our next meeting.
